The model, Matt Lantz, was noticed as he rode toward the Cheyenne River one hot afternoon during Artist Ride in SD. Matt had a narrow squint and was looking off into the distance while his horse was standing in the river shallows which I couldn’t help not photographing. This series of photos were narrowed down to my favorite which later became the inspiration for the painting.
